Share |

ISSX is committed to supporting education and professional development for all members, including those individuals in the early stages of their careers. In an effort to better reach student and new investigator members, ISSX is pleased to announce the creation of a New Investigator Group of the ISSX membership.

Please find additional information below on the functions of the New Investigator Group and how you may apply to become a group member!

What is the New Investigator Group?

The New Investigator Group is a group comprised of four ISSX members: two student members and two new investigator members (any member of ISSX within the first ten years of receiving his or her highest earned degree) who will assume a leading role in ensuring that student and new investigator members of ISSX are receiving the resources they need from the Society to further their careers. The main goals of the New Investigator Group are as follows:

  • Promote engagement among student and new investigator members;
  • Foster professional growth;
  • Cultivate a group of emerging leaders from within the ISSX membership.

What are the Responsibilities of the New Investigator Group?

The New Investigator Group will be tasked with the following responsibilities to ensure that student and new investigator members of ISSX are actively engaged in the Society and find value in their ISSX membership:

  • LinkedIn Student/New Investigator Message Board - New Investigator Group members will be in charge of leading participation in conversations within a new ISSX LinkedIn message board designed specifically for student and new investigator members. As moderators of the LinkedIn message board, the New Investigator Group will generate topics for discussion relevant to students and new investigators, including research, career progression, and educational programs.
  • New Investigator Forums & Networking Events - Members of the New Investigator Group will work with ISSX senior leadership to plan and execute the New Investigator Forum and Networking Event, held onsite at each North American ISSX Meeting.
    • The New Investigator Forum is an informational session in which senior researchers representing various employment backgrounds offer their insights and expertise on career development and the future of the science to student and new investigator attendees of the North American ISSX Meeting.
    • The New Investigator Networking Event will be held onsite at each North American ISSX Meeting and will offer student and new investigator attendees an opportunity to interact, network, and learn about the research interests of their peers in an informal environment.
  • ISSX Membership Affairs Committee - The New Investigator Group will provide input to the ISSX Membership Affairs Committee on outreach and initiatives for student and new investigator members.
