Awards Committee

The Awards Committee consists of seven members, including the President-elect, who serves as chair, and six other members of Council.  Three members are to be appointed by the President and three by the President-elect, taking into account regional representation.  Each member serves a four-year term on the committee, with half the members rotating off every two years.

The committee reviews nominations for Society awards, whose presentation will be linked to Society meetings.  A Distinguished Scientific Achievement Award and Distinguished Service Award are presented at each international meeting, every three years, with nominees drawn from an international pool of eligible scientists.  A Scientific Achievement Award and New Investigator Award are presented at the Society’s regional meetings or Society-sponsored meetings, with nominees drawn from the respective regions where the meetings are held (Americas, Asia Pacific or Europe).  After reviewing all nominations, the Awards Committee sends the names of selected awardees, if any, to the President for final approval.

Specific Charge:  The committee provides slides and text for presentation of awards and for publication in the newsletter and web site. They work to develop sponsors for awards, consider other types of awards/honors, review names that MOCs are proposing for dedication and provide feedback and suggestions if appropriate.   The Awards Committee assures that the meeting guidelines clearly indicate how award presentations should be integrated into the meeting programs.  The chair assigns a committee member to interface with each MOC to assure that the presentations are as intended.
