The Nomination Committee selects candidates from among regular members who consent to run for election for the positions of Officers, Councilors and Nomination Committee Members. They maintain a representative balance both geographically and scientifically among these candidates and propose at least two candidates for each Office-elect, at least nine candidates for Council and at least five candidates for the Nomination Committee. The committee also recommends nominees to Council to fill elected vacancies. No member of the Nomination Committee may hold more than one elected office at any one time and the seven members, apart from the Immediate Past President, may not hold other elective office in the Society. Three members are elected on a biennial basis to serve four-year terms and may stand for only one re-election for a second consecutive four-year term. The Immediate Past President shall serve as chairperson of the Nomination Committee.
Specific Charge: The Nomination Committee develops and maintains a current a list of potential candidates for standing committees, ad hoc committees and MOCs. Members maintain contact with standing committee chairs to determine the level of input of committee members and provide the new president at the start of his term with list of candidates for his selection for standing committees as well as for appointment to Council. As appropriate, committee members solicit nominations for society awards and follow-up with members who express an interest in participating in ISSX.
