Dear Colleague,

In light of the prolonged pandemic, the futility of attempting to go forward with an in-person scientific meeting this October in Hawaii has been acknowledged. The ISSX Council, after discussion with our partners at JSSX, has decided to cancel the meeting. We regret the delay in coming to this decision and relaying this information to our members, valued sponsors, exhibitors, and others. The process was prolonged, in part, due to our legal guidance and the process of negotiating with the meeting venue. Also, please understand that during these negotiations, legal considerations precluded wider communication of updates of the status of the conference and this is why there was little information shared about the meeting over the past several months. We apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused.

No further registrations for the meeting are being accepted and we are working on a process to refund any registration fees that have been paid. Discussions are underway concerning offering some educational content in an online format but there is no plan to fully convert the meeting to a virtual activity. This may disappoint some members but a full virtual meeting was not considered to be feasible.

As we determine subsequent steps, we pause to salute health care workers, emergency responders, our members, and our partners. We have every hope that the global pandemic situation will improve with rapidity and look we forward to seeing everyone and sharing our science at the next planned conference in Boston, Mass. in September 2021.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we endeavoured to make the best decisions and protect the Society.

With best wishes,

            Ann Daly
            ISSX President
